Irate Trump Reads Fox News Pundits’ Takes to Insist Case Is Bogus: ‘This Is Jonathan Turley!’

Former President Donald Trump exited the courtroom in New York on Monday and cited several media personalities who said he should not be on trial.

Trump has pleaded not guilty to 34 counts of falsifying business records. On Monday, the court heard testimony from his former lawyer Michael Cohen, who went to prison for his role in arranging hush money payments to cover up extramarital affairs Trump had before the 2016 election. The former president denies the affairs and arranging the payments.

Brandishing a stack of papers, Trump read several excerpts from various pundits who have been critical of the prosecution. While Trump cited CNN’s Michael Smerconish, the bulk of those he invoked are regulars on Fox News, including contributors Andy McCarthy, Marc Thiessen, Jonathan Turley, and Byron York. Trump also cited frequent Fox guest and his former Acting Attorney General Matt Whitaker.

Trump seemed especially fond of Turley’s take.

“Jonathan Turley,” he said, before reading the George Washington University law professor’s remarks on America’s Newsroom earlier in the day. “‘Can’t imagine any competent order would not be embarrassed what has happened in this courtroom. This day is truly going to go down as a day of infamy for the New York legal system,’ which is true,” Trump said, quoting Turley’s remarks on Monday’s America’s Newsroom.

Trump continued reading comments from Turley, who called the trial “deeply disturbing.”

“This is Jonathan Turley!” Trump said before quoting Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC), who has been floated as a potential running mate. Trump cited Scott as saying that the “objective is to keep Trump off the campaign trail.”

The former president then pointed to poll numbers showing him ahead in “the five key states.”

“We’re leading very substantially, I might add,” he said.

Trump is slated for a rematch against President Joe Biden in November.
